Hi there. I've come across a somewhat difficult problem. I'm trying to load the printer drivers for a C4585 on XP 64 bit system.  I've downloaded the latest software from Hp and all goes well upto the point where it asks me to connect the printer via USB. The HP software window installation then goes no further.....A seperate microsoft window also pops up asking me to locate the drivers and so I know that the computer has detected this new device but I'm at a loss as to why the HP installation stops at this point. Any suggestions?

Thanks Rainbow23 for the link to a wide range of suggestions. 12 tips I think.

I've spent a few hours on this already and some of those 12 I have already tried.

Since I wrote my original post, I came across another suggestion online. I tried this last night and it works!

So you might like to add this to your link to make 13 tips.

Delete the file C:\WINDOWS\inf\infcache.1 - XP will recreate it.
The INF folder and the infcache.1 file are 'hidden'. To see them in the Windows Explorer:
Menu 'Tools' -> 'Folder Options'
Tab 'View', mark 'show hidden files and folders'

I suggest anyone who is thinking about deleting this file should read this first. This is just to make sure you know the context of this solution and why this might work in your case.

@1ndyandy, welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out.

I understand that your HP Photosmart C4585 All-in-One Printer does not get detected after connecting the USB cable during the software installation process.

Don't worry as I have a few steps that should help fix this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you in the link: Device Setup Failed

Let me know how that works.

I hope you have a good day ahead.
