I got an email from HP about downloading an HP Print and Scan doctor update for my printer.

When i click on anything on the page I get an error message that the site certificate isn't any good.

Dragon-Fur,

I am not sure my question is understood here. Is there a way to attach a couple pdf's of screen prints I did of the original email message and the error messages I am getting?  if I read your reply correctly yu don't think the email to me was valid. The heading says:

HP Support

I have got HP hardware/ software alerts for many years from it.

I didn't ask for the Scan Doctor software. The HP email said it is a recent update for one of my printers (I assume the newest one).   The Doctor software they recommend is the same ver. number as you put in your response.  So I was not looking for Doctor software before the email.  The big question is why am I getting certificate  errors messages when I try to click on the links in the HP email and also the same thing happened when the HP community sent your response to my email.  It actually says on that HP Community email that it appears to be spam.

So that is the problem, not whether I want Scan Doctor or not.

OK - understood that you do not want the Doctor software.

Reference removed from the first post.

Email from HP Alerts is valid.

What is not clear -- and I cannot verify -- is why you are being offered an Update when none is listed in your Software & Drivers.

and

I cannot answer the question about certificate errors in this context.

You know you can clear your cookies / cache >> True - doing so does not usually clear certificate errors.

Were it mine to do in this instance, I'd not try to update (regardless of email / method).

Firefox - Certificate Error

Solution: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-does-your-connection-is-not-secure-mean

(Scroll to bottom > section "corrupted certificate store")

Excerpted from the article:

Corrupted certificate store

You may also see certificate error messages when the file in your profile folder that stores your certificates cert9.db has become corrupted. Try to delete this file while Firefox is closed to regenerate it:

Note: You should only perform these steps as a last resort, after all other troubleshooting steps have failed.

  1. Open your profile folder:

Click the menu button  ( three horizontal lines - "hamburger menu")

, click Help and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information Tab will open.

  • Within the Application Basics section, click on Open Folder. Your profile folder will open.

Note: If you are unable to open or use Firefox, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Firefox.

  1. Click the Firefox menu  ( three horizontal lines - "hamburger menu") , then click Exit.
  2. Click on the file named cert9.db.
  3. Press Delete.
  4. Restart Firefox.

Note: cert9.db will be recreated when you restart Firefox. This is normal.
