Get a network test report as described here on page 90

http://www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04724956.pdf

 

 

ensure the IP address of your computer and the printer are on the same subnet.  For example

192.168.1.3 for laptop

192.168.1.45 for printer

 

the subnets have too be the same or the printer cannot be found.
