@Dave1020, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Oh no! Nothing is more frustrating than a brand-new printer refusing to cooperate. 😤 But don’t worry—we’ll get your HP DeskJet up and running.

Check Printer Setup

Since it’s a new printer, let’s make sure everything is set up properly:
Remove all packing materials (including any tape inside the printer).
Turn it on and make sure the Wi-Fi light is blinking (or solid blue if it’s connected).
If using USB, use a different USB port on the computer.

Connect to Wi-Fi (If You Want Wireless)

Since Wi-Fi wasn’t working, let’s go step by step:

Reset the network on the printer:

Press and hold the Wireless button (or Wi-Fi + Cancel together) for 5 seconds until the light blinks.

Use the HP Smart App: HP printer setup (HP Smart app) | HP® Support

Download HP Smart on your computer or phone.

Open it and select Set up a new printer. Follow the on-screen steps.

Make sure your computer and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Check Router Settings:

If you have a dual-band router (2.4 GHz & 5 GHz), make sure the printer is connecting to 2.4 GHz (not 5 GHz).

Try the USB Connection (If You Prefer Wired Printing)

If Wi-Fi won’t work, the USB connection should: HP printer setup (USB cable) | HP® Support

Unplug the USB cable from both the printer and the PC.

Download & Install HP Drivers:

Go to HP Support, enter HP DeskJet 4255e, and download the full software package.

Reconnect USB Cable:

Once the software asks, plug in the USB cord directly to the computer (no hubs or docking stations).

Set as Default Printer:

Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners

Click HP DeskJet 4255e > Set as Default.

Check for Print Queues & Errors

Open Control Panel > Devices & Printers

Right-click HP DeskJet 4255e > See what’s printing

If there are stuck print jobs, cancel them all.

Try printing a test page:

Right-click printer > Printer Properties > Print Test Page.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
