@MichaelDean1015, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdw Printer is not being recognized via USB connection on your laptop, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

Check the USB Cable and Port:

  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the laptop.
  • Try using a different USB cable or test the cable with another device to ensure it's working properly.
  • Try plugging the cable into a different USB port on your laptop.

Printer Setup:

  • Make sure the printer is turned on and the USB connection is enabled on the printer.
  • Check if any error lights or messages are displayed on the printer's control panel.

Driver Installation:

  • Ensure that the HP printer drivers and software for USB connection are properly installed on your laptop. You can download and install the latest drivers from the HP website.
  • Disconnect the USB cable, uninstall the existing printer driver, and then reinstall it with the USB cable connected.

Update System Software:

  • Check for any pending updates on your operating system and install them. Restart the computer after updates.

Device Manager Check:

  • Access the Device Manager on your laptop (you can search for it in the Start menu).
  • Look for any devices with errors under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" or "Other devices." If your printer appears with an error, right-click on it and select "Update driver."

USB Power Management:

  • Sometimes, power settings on a laptop can affect USB functionality. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options, and then adjust the USB settings in the advanced power settings.

Use Wireless Connection as an Alternative:

  • If USB continues to be problematic, and wireless is erratic, consider addressing the wireless connection issues, potentially by checking your network stability, router settings, or printer's network configuration.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
