I have been working on downgrading the firmware for the officejetpro 8610, which is available on the support website (OJP8610_1910A. but when I double click it the app for HP Printer Updates runs, and it finds the printer, this is all good, but I cannot select this software to be installed because it is of an earlier vintage than the installed software. Surely this is the case on all downgrades, so how is this suppose to be installed. Can I eliminate teh firmware already installed? I don't think it is evident. Please I have wasted a ton of time during my busiest season and I need this printer or one that will replace it and I mean soon.

I thank you for your response, but I'm afraid this is the straw that broke the Camel's back. I can't even get the printer to a ready state, because of the firmware blockage, that simply stated says there is a problem with the ink supply system. Duh! I guess there is, and I think it is caused by the dynamic bs stopping non hp ink cartridges. I cannot determine that, and I'm no longer going to try. I am today putting my HP printers - two of them same message- in a pile to throw away after tax season, and a purge of the contents.
I have purchased two canon ink jet printers that will do just fine, they don't use fiber ink and they can sit for a couple of weeks in the non busy season. I cannot take this project on as a hobby. I will defer to 25 year old MBAs and techy engineers to write their little protections for this once admirable company, while I go on attempting to cobble out a living as a tax return guy.
I'm beginning to feel peace in my brain. I am now going to Wal Mart to buy some non hp ink to go with my non hp printer
I am keeping my HP laser jets, they have worked quite well for more than 25 years and don't need any babysitting.
