hp 4500 g510n-z wireless
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've been working with 4500 for a few years.

Now I changed my modem-router and it stopped printing.

I configured the net with the setup wizard, entered the router password, checked with print report and nothing.

So it must be the printer definitions in windows.

How do I proceed?

do I re-install or is there a simpler way?

thank you

Replacing/reconnecting/changing your wireless router, try here.

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/wireless-printing-center/reconfiguring-system-help3.html

* Reset your printer back to Network Defaults.  Then run the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect.  Both can be accessed from the front panel or computer.  If no front panel for configuration, you must use your Printer USB cable to connect.  You can also try the WPS method if your router/printer supports this only if the Wizard or Printer USB cable is not available.  Read your User Guide for info.

* Wireless printers only connect to the 2.4G band in your router.  The router must have the 2.4G SSID band enabled with a different SSID name than your 5.0G SSID band in your router.

* Set router to a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never ‘auto’.  Try channel 1 first then the others one at a time.

* Make sure printer and router are at least 5 feet apart.

* Make sure IPv6 is disabled in the printer.

Make and model of modem and router?

However if you have a Gateway (modem+router) device, all Gateway devices are terrible for wireless connectivity.   If this does not work, suggest you think about putting that gateway device in full bridge mode and install your own high quality router that YOU have full control over.

WOW!

I'm a member of quite a few forums.

I never saw in all my many years such a detailed answer.

it seems that a living knowledge base answered me.

many thanks!

I only hope one of the many advices will resolve my problem, though I still think it relates more too the printer definition in windows.

if nothing will hep I'll re-install.

thanks again

Partially.

The configuration of the printer in Windows has saved the IP-address assigned to the printer by the previous router.

Your new router has assigned a different IP-address to the printer, and also to your computer.

That old IP-address cannot be "reached" by your computer.

Compare to moving from one apartment in a building to another apartment in the same building.

Most of your mailing-address has not changed, e.g,. still at "123 Main Street", but its "full" address is slightly different, e.g., was 'Apartment 666' and now is 'Apartment 222'.

Somebody knocking at your "old" door will not reach you.

So, as the Other Person stated, reset your printer, so that it gets a new IP-address from your new router.

Your computer already has obtained a new IP-address from your new router.

Delete the printer from Windows.

Then, use the "Add A Networked Printer" wizard to add the printer, at its new IP-address.

>>> to sum things up: downloaded from HP setup that I hoped will fit windows 10:

OJ_AIO_4500_G510n-z_Full_Win_WW_140_408-5.exe

ran it as administrator. failed few times but noted that I have a printer installed

tried to print with usb cable and it worked

so I don't have solution center and only HP smart

I don't use the scanner but I need the fax. will work on it later.

after taking out the usb cable and using wireless setup wizard it didn't print

finally I added printer using windows (not HP program) and strangely enough windows was able quickly to finish installing and it worked!

now all I need is to check the fax

thanks

Delete the printer from Windows.

Then, use the "Add A Networked Printer" wizard to add the printer, at its new IP-address.

>>> exactly what I did. Somehow HP program failed due to problems in accessing files in Program Data

I ran HP setup as administrator several times (this is what the setup program suggested) and nothing helped.

But I added a printer and windows did the job.

So I don't have Solution center and I don't use the scanner. I only have HP smart installed

but I can print.

Now I'm only worried about the fax

Thank you

Now that the problem is solved, can I add a copy of my printer with a different port (one port is for the network the other for the usb connection as a backp)

thank you

Yes, I suppose that you can.

But, if your printer is "network-connected", then any computer on your home-network can access it as a "network-printer" -- no need to use the printer's USB support.
