I am trying to change the network my HP8100 N811a connects to.  Currently I can print wirelessly and the Network status pages say everything is fine.  I am using an iMac with the latest OS operating system.  I start the HP Utilities app and select Network and Advanced.  I am transferred to a web that requires me to ok an outdated certificate.  When I select the Network settings wizard there is an immediate System Error - check your wireless connection.  Since as indicated above everything seems to be working I don’t know what to check.  I really need to be able to shift between different networks for the printer.

Guest or public networks (such as networks found in apartments, coffee shops, schools, or hotels) have additional security features that can prevent printing.

To print, directly connect your computer or mobile device to your printer with Wi-Fi Direct.

For more information, go to Wi-Fi Direct Printer Setup.

Or you can connect a USB cable between the printer and computer to use its functions-

Refer-USB Printer Setup (Mac)

Let me know how this goes!

Hi @thermo23,

I'd like to help!

The printer can be connected to only one network at a time , if you would like to switch networks then u would have reconnect he printer to the networks each time .

Follow the suggestions to reset the network and connect it-

To reset the network settings, press and hold (Wireless) button and (Cancel) button for three seconds.

Set up the printer using WiFi Protected Setup (WPS)

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) allows you to quickly set up the printer on your wireless network, without having to enter the wireless network name (SSID), wireless password (WPA passphrase, WEP key), or other wireless settings.

NOTE: Only set up wireless using WPS if your wireless network uses WPA data encryption. If your wireless network uses WEP or is not using any encryption at all, use one of the other methods provided in this section to set up the printer on your wireless network.

NOTE: To use WPS, make sure your wireless router or wireless access point supports WPS. Routers that support WPS often have a Wireless (WPS) button or a button labeled “WPS”.

You can use one of the following methods to set up the printer using WPS:

• Push Button Method: Use the Wireless (WPS) or WPS button, if available, on your router.

• PIN Method: Enter the PIN generated by the printer in the router’s configuration software.

To connect the printer using the Push Button Method

1. On the printer, press and hold the Wireless (Wireless) button for 3 seconds. The wireless light starts blinking.

2. On the wireless router or wireless access point, press and hold the WPS button for 3 seconds. Wait for about 2 minutes. If the printer connects successfully, the wireless light stops blinking but remains lit.

To connect the printer using the PIN Method

1. Print the network configuration page and locate the pin for WPS. For more information, see Understand the network configuration page.

2. On the printer, press and hold the Wireless (Wireless) button for 3 seconds. The Wireless light starts blinking.

3. Open the configuration utility or software for the wireless router or wireless access point, and then enter the WPS PIN printed on the network configuration page.

NOTE: For more information about using the configuration utility, see the documentation provided with the router or wireless access point. Wait for about 2 minutes. If the printer connects successfully, the wireless light stops blinking but remains lit.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Unfortunately  I cannot use WPS.  I am trying to use a community network and have no physical access and cannot change anything.

I appreciate your attempts to help but as far as I can tell the HP8100 does not have the Direct option and I want to have access from several computers and devices.  I realized finally that instead of trying to solve the system error I was getting I should attach by cable, use the HP Utility to change network parameters, and then disconnect the cable.  This appears to work.  You are right that security  'enhancements' on a community network cause lots of problems.
