Hi @GFording,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A slow printing issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw can be caused by various factors ranging from hardware limitations to software settings. Here are some general steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially speed up the printing process:

1. Check Printer Settings

  • Print Quality: High-resolution prints take longer. If speed is a priority and you are not printing high-quality images or documents, lower the print quality.
  • Duplex Printing: Printing on both sides of the paper (duplex printing) can slow down the printing. Try single-side printing to see if there's an improvement.
  • Printer Quiet Mode: Some printers have a 'Quiet Mode' that reduces printing noise but also slows down printing speed. Ensure this is turned off in the printer settings.

2. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

Ensure your printer's firmware and drivers are up-to-date. Manufacturers often release updates that improve performance and fix bugs. Visit the HP Support website, find your printer model, and download the latest firmware and drivers.

3. Check the Network Connection

If your printer is connected over a network:

  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: Ensure the printer has a strong Wi-Fi signal. Weak signals can slow down data transmission. Consider moving the printer closer to the router or using a wired connection if possible.
  • Network Traffic: High network traffic can slow printing. Try printing at a time when the network is less busy, or connect the printer to a computer using a USB cable for direct printing.

4. Printer Hardware

  • Memory: Some printers perform better with additional memory, especially when printing large documents or high-resolution images. Check if your printer has the option to upgrade its memory.
  • Cleaning: Ensure the printer is clean and free from dust or debris that could hinder its performance.

5. Document Complexity

  • File Size: Large files or documents with complex graphics can take longer to print. If possible, reduce the file size or complexity.
  • Print as Image: For PDFs, you can try printing as an image in Adobe Reader's print dialog. This sometimes speeds up printing for complex PDFs.

6. Check for Software Conflicts

  • Background Applications: Close unnecessary applications on your computer that might be using system resources.
  • Printer Queue: Clear the printer queue. Stuck jobs can slow down new print jobs.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
