Hi all 🙂

i have a simple question, yet despite searching an entire day online, i cannot find the answer!

Here is my question:

how can i print using my Mac OS (its innate Preview app), and have the colors turn out right?

I can print fine from Photoshop, but i need to print fom Preview (as i can then choose borderless printing).

From today's searching, i at least found out that Preview does not have color settings of its own.

But Mac has the Color Sync feature.

Please help! As it is, the colors are printing out extremely cyan-y via Preview.

Much appreciated!

Hi Dvortex 🙂

UPDATE:

the issue is fixed at last!

Here's what i did, in case it helps anyone else:

switched the cyan, which i suspected might be leaking, cyan for a brand new ink.
It turned out better, but then i had to do a cleaning printheads to improve it more.

Also did 2nd level and 3rd level cleaning.
Result was the yellow was still like a pale green, though better.

Then, i also changed the yellow to a brand new ink.

Still same sickly yellow.

Then, did again the 1st,2nd,&3rd level cleaning.
Result: nearly perfect!

So my best conclusion is that the cyan was indeed leaking.

It seemed to pollute the yellow the most, probably because yellow is such a pale color.

Thanks again for all your helpfulness, Dvortex!
I really appreciate it!!!

Hello, @coatl – Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

Going through your post, I see that you are trying to change the color profile while using the Preview app on your MAC.

Did you try to change the color settings as suggested here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_6671094-6671075-16

If yes, then try to reset the print system which will default all the print settings on your app. Here are the steps:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.
  • Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select Secure AirPrint or AirPrint. Alternatively, you may select the name of your printer if available in that list.

That should help. Let me know!

Cheers 🙂

Thanks so much Dvortex for your kind reply! 🙂

I did read through the HP info from the link you provided, but i had already tried what options that were available from my own printer driver window (many were not available).

So then i followed your instructs, and when i had the choice between Secure Airprint or Airprint, i wasn’t sure, so i chose Airprint. (Just guessing, and i could be totally off, but thought that maybe it might avoid any potential permissions issue(?)…)
Anyway, i have just done a few more test prints, and they all show waaaay off colors! 😞

What can i do?

Hello, @coatl

Did you try to make a color copy on the machine?  Place a color document face down on the scanner glass and press the color copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the copy is working well, try to update the MAC as suggested here: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C

Also, try to add the printer using the Secure AirPrint or with the HP Printer drivers instead of AirPrint.

Thanks, I'll watch for your reply!

Hi, thanks again Dvortex for your reply! 🙂

Okay, i just tried the copy, using a paper that had a test of all 4 colors (CMYK) and the result is the same amount of offness in colors. (way too cyan-y. IE., the cyan and black are perfect, but the magenta is a dark indigo, and the yellow is a true green).

Then, i just added the same printer again, this time it calls itself the same but appended with a '2'. I had the option then of choosing The HP kind instead of Airprint, so i did. (This time i saw no 'Secure Airprint' in the options.)

However, again, the printer prints the same amount of offness in colors.

I tried the scanning option with the same test page, and it shows up as a perfect file on my mac’s screen.

Maybe the cyan cartridge is leaking? What do you think?
Thanks!
