HP Officejet Pro 8630 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a new computer and, using HP Smart menu, I'm able to use all features, including document feeder scanning.  But the computer does not appear in the "Select Computer" display on the printer itself.  I would MUCH prefer using all the features of its submenu like I can on my old computer which is also using this printer, but trying many approaches I am unable to have the printer recognize my new computer.  Everything's  on the same network.  I can't find any discussion anywhere about the "Select Computer" menu, don't know why the one computer is shown and the other is not.  The computer DOES appear in the "Others" menu, but it's submenu items don't work properly, for example, not recognizing the document feeder.  The computers and printer are connected via ethernet cable.

Hi @keenable,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing a connectivity issue between your new computer and the HP Officejet Pro 8630 printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Check Network Connection:

  • Make sure both the new computer and the printer are connected to the same network.
  • Verify that the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the computer and the printer.

Reboot Devices:

  • Power off both the printer and the computer.
  • Wait for a few minutes and then power them back on.
  • Check if the printer now recognizes the new computer.

Update HP Software:

  • Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart software installed on your new computer.
  • Visit the HP website and download the latest drivers and software for your printer model.

Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Check the firewall and antivirus settings on your new computer. Sometimes, they can block communication between the printer and the computer.
  • Temporarily disable the firewall or antivirus software and check if the issue persists.

Check Printer Settings:

  • On the printer, navigate to the network settings and ensure that the printer is connected to the correct network.
  • Check if there are any restrictions or security settings on the printer that may be preventing the new computer from being recognized.

Network Discovery:

  • Make sure that network discovery is enabled on your new computer. This allows other devices on the network to see and connect to the computer.

Static IP Address:

  • Consider assigning a static IP address to your printer instead of relying on DHCP. This ensures a consistent IP address for the printer.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • On the printer, you may find an option to reset network settings. Use this option cautiously, as it will reset all network-related settings on the printer.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the HP website. This tool can help diagnose and fix printing and scanning issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
