Hi @Midnight5028,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 not receiving print jobs from your Windows 10 computer issue. Let’s go through a few checks.

1. Initial Checks

  • Restart Everything: Turn off the printer, computer, and your wireless router, then turn them back on.
  • Check Connection: Ensure the printer’s Wi-Fi icon is solid blue. If using USB, check the connection.
  • Check Printer Status: On your PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers. If the printer is grayed out, it is offline.

2. Clear Stuck Print Jobs

A stalled document can stop all other documents from printing.

  1. Open Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978.
  3. Select See what's printing.
  4. Click Printer in the top menu, then select Cancel All Documents

3. Reinstall/Update Drivers

Outdated drivers often cause Windows 10 compatibility issues.

  1. Go to the HP Support website and download the latest software/drivers for the OfficeJet Pro 6978.
  2. Run the installer and follow the prompt to uninstall old software first, then reinstall.

4. Set As Default Printer

  1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Uncheck "Allow Windows to manage my default printer".
  3. Click your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, click Manage, and then click Set as default

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider removing the device from Devices and Printers entirely, then adding it back as a new printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,

I'm an HP Employee.
