Hello, everyone.  I have a couple of questions:

I would like to use a cable to connect my HP255dw printer to my iMac.

1.  Should I be able to simply connect the cable at both ends?

2.  Must I also add the printer with the wireless connection to my existing list of Printers?  Of course, the wireless connection with this printer is already on the list.

3.  My ultimate goal is to NOT use the wireless connection and ONLY use the cable connection.

thanks

@drgonzo777, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

According to the printer specifications, this printer has a USB, Ethernet port, and wireless feature too.

Which cable are you referring to? USB or Ethernet?

Yes, you just have to connect the devices using the cable if you do not want the printer to be wirelessly connected to the Mac.

You may either use a USB cable or an Ethernet cable.

For more info on USB, refer to - HP printer setup (USB cable)

For Ethernet, refer to - HP printer setup (wired Ethernet network)

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

thanks.  I tried this with a USB c cable and couldnt make it work.  I thought there might be an easy way, but I guess not.

Truthfully, I don't find this printer to be easy to deal with, nor the documentation too be very good.

thanks

You cannot use a USB C cable. It will not work. You have to use a printer USB cable. You will get this in a local electronic store nearby. It is not included with the printer.

It is easy to install the printer using a USB cable. Use the right cable and follow the steps in the document mentioned in my previous post.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
