@JohnB421, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Connecting a 2012 MacBook Air to HP ENVY 6000e Printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Connecting older devices like a 2012 MacBook Air running earlier macOS versions to newer printer models such as the HP ENVY 6000e might require additional steps. Here's how you can attempt to establish a connection:

Software Compatibility Check:

  • First, ensure your macOS meets the minimum requirements for the HP printer software. Visit 123.hp.com to check compatibility and download necessary drivers.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Download the HP Smart app from the App Store. This app facilitates wireless printing and scanning and is compatible with various macOS versions.
  • If the HP Smart app fails to install or connect on older macOS versions, consider updating your macOS if possible, or use alternative methods like AirPrint.

AirPrint Compatibility:

  • Check if your macOS version supports AirPrint, which allows direct printing from macOS devices without requiring additional software. You can check compatibility settings in the printer's user guide.
  • Ensure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and use the print function available in macOS as a test.

Manual Installation:

  • If drivers or auto-install options are unavailable, manually download the necessary software from HP’s official website for your MacBook's operating system.
  • Install the software following the instructions provided, and attempt a USB or wireless connection through macOS printer settings.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
