I can't get my printer to show online on HP app

Hi @marciec

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for your patience and for checking the HP App. I truly appreciate any effort you've already made. If your printer isn’t showing online in the HP App, it’s likely due to a network or communication issue.

Let’s walk through a few clear steps to bring it back online and ensure a smooth connection.

Step 1: Restart everything to clear any error states

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Restart your computer or mobile device.
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router.
  • After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Step 2: Confirm the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network

  • On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button or navigate to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
  • Make sure it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or mobile device.
  • If not, use the Wireless Setup Wizard to reconnect.

Step 3: Reconnect the printer in the HP App

  1. Open the HP App on your Windows PC or mobile device.
  2. Click Add Printer or Set Up a New Printer.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to detect and connect your printer.
  4. If prompted, allow location and Bluetooth permissions to help the app find the printer.

Step 4: Run Diagnose & Fix in the HP App (Windows/macOS only)

This tool can automatically resolve offline status, port mismatches, and driver issues.

  • Open the HP App.
  • Select your printer (even if it appears offline).
  • Click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the prompts to complete the scan.

Step 5: Check firewall or antivirus settings

Sometimes, security software may block the printer’s communication. Temporarily disable the firewall and try reconnecting the printer in the HP App. If it works, re-enable the firewall and add the HP App and printer as exceptions.

Step 6: Use a USB connection as a temporary workaround

If the wireless connection continues to fail, connect the printer via USB and add it to the HP App. This can help complete setup and allow firmware updates that may improve wireless performance.

Once your printer appears online, try printing a test page from the HP App to confirm everything is working. If you'd like help checking ink levels or setting up mobile printing afterward, I’d be glad to guide you through that too.

You're doing great—just a few more steps and your printer will be back in sync.
