macOS 10.15 Catalina

product is photosmart 7525; not sure since when the control panel is frozen because I usually send instructions from my iMac.  Only discovered this problem today. [personal information removed] according to product info page but when I copy this number into the HP help page it asks me for a real serial number !!  any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

@jymaillat, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand the printer screen is not responding. Let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware if available from your Mac.

If the issue persists, I'm afraid this could be a hardware issue. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options for your printer.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Refer to this document to know how to find the Product Name or Product Number/Serial number.

Note: Do not mention Serial number in public posts for security reasons.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Thank you for your reply; unfortunately it did not resolve the issue.  I checked the printer software and it is apparently up to date.  Next I'll try HP Technical Support.  Again, thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

I can't find anything of help on Tech Support.  The words "control panel frozen" don't bring up anything.  I may have to dump the printer which is unfortunate because it prints and scans fine ( I can control those functions from my iMac).

@jymaillat

If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer as this is a hardware issue. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
