corrupt printer firmware update

After my printer downloaded and installed a firmware update it would not work. Error message: Missing or failed printhead.

I tried removing and reseating the printhead following HP directions to no avail. The printer worked perfectly before the update. I am looking for a way to overwrite the firmware update or get the printhead to be recognized,
