@matt537, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to be stuck when you need to print something urgently. Here are the most effective steps to fix your HP DeskJet not printing via HP Smart on Windows 11:
Quick Fixes to Try First
Restart Everything:
- Turn off your printer and unplug it for 30 seconds.
- Restart your computer.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check the Print Queue:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select your printer > Open print queue.
- Cancel any stuck print jobs.
Run HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool:
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Click on your printer > select “Printer Settings” or the wrench icon.
- Choose “Diagnose & Fix” and follow the prompts.
If That Doesn’t Work
Uninstall and Reinstall the Printer:
- In Settings > Printers & scanners, remove your printer.
- Uninstall the HP Smart app from Add or remove programs.
- Restart your PC.
- Reinstall HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.
- Re-add your printer.
Update or Reinstall Drivers:
- Visit 123.hp.com and download the latest drivers for your DeskJet model.
- Install them and restart your PC.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.

If your printer is connected via Wi-Fi, make sure:
- It’s on the same network as your PC.
- The Wi-Fi light on the printer is solid (not blinking).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
