8720
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi, I need to stop my deskjet 8720 dynamically changing wifi channel. currently it broadcasts on the same channel as the router. If I change router channel the pronter changes channel to match that of my router and causes degraded wifi performance for otherdevices. there is no need for it to do this - is there a configuration I can set or a software patch that can be applied.

Your printer has no capability to change wifi channels.  It connects to whatever your router is set too.

Do not use 'auto' in the router.  Set to a fixed wireless channel like 1,6 or 11.  Channel 1 is best.

Make sure you have Wireless Direct disabled in the printer also.  This is only used if you have no router.

Thanks for your help with this. I have turned off wifi direct and this has stopped the printer broadcasting - and the problem is therefore cured. However, it is unfortunate that it is necessary to disable useful functionality to work round what is a stupid design fault in what is otherwise an excellent piece of kit.

Yes, router is set to a fixed channel.
