@pastormike7, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Connecting your HP DeskJet 2852e printer to your desktop computer can sometimes lead to connectivity issues. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve these problems:

1. Check the USB/Network Connections

  • USB Connection: If you are using a USB connection, make sure the USB cable is firmly connected to both the printer and the computer. Ensure the cable is not damaged and try connecting to another USB port on your computer.
  • Network Connection: If you are connecting via Wi-Fi, ensure both your printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Restart your router if necessary.

2. Install/Reinstall the Printer Software

  • If the software was not installed before connecting the USB cable, disconnect the cable and install the HP Photosmart or HP Smart software that came with your printer. Follow the installation instructions, and only connect the USB cable when prompted by the software.

3. Power Cycle the Devices

  • Turn off both your printer and the computer. Unplug the printer from its power source, wait for about a minute, and then plug it back in. Power on both devices and try connecting them again.

4. Check Device Manager

  • On your Windows computer, open the Device Manager. Look for any yellow exclamation marks which might indicate a driver issue. If present, you may need to update or reinstall the printer driver software.

5. Check Printer Status and Cables

  • Ensure the printer is turned on. Check for any error messages or paper jams that might prevent the printer from connecting.
  • Replace any bent or damaged cables.

6. Network Discovery

  • Ensure that Network Discovery is enabled on your computer. Open Network and Sharing Center -> Change advanced sharing settings -> Turn on network discovery.

7. Install Latest Driver Updates

  • Visit HP support website to download the latest drivers for your printer model. Ensure you select the correct operating system version.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
