2-sided printing is suddenly a default...I'd like to disable that and return to 1-sided printing as the default

@Kymba1, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

Which application are you using to print?

The settings depend and vary with the application used to print.

Open a document, photo, or webpage, click File > Print to open the Print window.

Make sure your printer is selected, and then click Show Details if it displays to access the print settings available for your printer.

Uncheck the 2-sided option and save the setting.

Print dialog with details shown

For PDF files, On the File menu, click Print.

Click Copies & Pages, and then click Layout.

Selecting Layout in the Print dialog box

Click Two-Sided, and then select Long-Edge binding (to flip pages on the long end) or Short-Edge binding (to flip pages on the short end).

Selecting an option on the Two-Sided menu

The duplex settings for Microsoft Word are located on the Layout tab.
