so i hope from hp ..... to make drivers for old printers " or unsupported " to be fit to the new windows 10 ......
as i don't want to put this printer in the trash ..... although it is a very good printer & i don't want to use an old version of windows also ....

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP LaserJet 1000 Printer and there are no drivers available for Windows 10.
Your printer was manufactured much before Win10 even existed. These printers are retired and therefore their drivers/software cannot be upgraded to match the latest operating systems. However, HP printer drivers are released with newer operating systems and sometimes help to make older printers work. We can try this workaround though.
I suggest you to perform the steps to install the Windows inbuilt printer drivers.
NOTE: When you reach the list of printer drivers to choose from. Select HP or Hewlett Packard from the manufacturer's list. Then from the Printers list, select HP Universal Printing PCL 6.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know the outcome. All the best! 🙂

@kazi
i performed the steps that you mention it in the link ,,,,, but there is no response from my system except "unidentified device connected to my computer " and there is no automatic download for the driver , although i set my system to automatically download and update the drivers ,,,,,,,,,,
the 2nd thing i'd like to talk about it is ,,,,, any device or printer from hp should be applicable for all versions of windows ,,,,
if i buy an new printer now to be applicable for windows 10 ,,,, so in the far future i'll update my windows several of times to the newest versions of windows and my printer will be " retired " as you mention it ......
so i think hp is a "respectable company " ,,,, and can solve problems like this ......

I understand your concern. But after a few years the hardware becomes obsolete and therefore it is not possible to keep the software updated for the obsolete hardware.
However, let us try one more step:
- Please try to install the inbuilt printer drivers again. And this time do not choose HP Universal Printing PCL 6.
- Instead, click on the Windows Update button and wait for the list of drivers to refresh. It may take a minute.
- Once the list refreshes, please select the driver for your printer, i.e. hp laserjet 1000 and install it.
- If it does not work then try another drivers which is DeskJet 990c and install.
Hope this helps. Good luck. 🙂

@MKazi
primarily ,,,,, sorry for lengtheing until reply ....
hp laserjet 1000 series is installed in my computer ......
if i plug my printer in my computer it's icon appears in "device and printer " & if i unplug my printer from my computer it's icon diappears from "devices and printer "
but whenever i right click at the icon no appearance of " set as default printer " although any other printer "set as default printer" appears ,, whenever you right click at it ......
so what is the solution for this ........

If it isn't offering an option to select it as a default printer then please remove other printers so that this printer is left alone. That we can try printing. While printing, please ensure that the printer comes up as the selected printer.
Hope this does the trick. Let me know. All the best! 🙂

Dear @MKazi,
Did you managed to solve that problem with HP LaserJet 1000 printer with W10?
Cause I have the same problem and try to solve it as @ahmed-kovi suggested in responds to your requests, and failed.
So did you get the acceptable solution?
Would be grateful for @ahmed-kovi comment.
All the best,
I.K.

The only way I was able to still use my HP Laserjet 1000 is to setup an old xp computer with the laserjet 1000 installed. Then you download and install PDFCreator which is free.
So I print to PDFCreator on \\xpdestop\PDFCreator from the windows 10 computer.
What happens here is that when you print to the PDFCreator, the program process the file, prints it to a PDF and saves it in a folder on the XP machine, then the PDFCreator PROGRAM prints the PDF file "PDF Creator" to the laserjet 1000.
The processing takes about 30 seconds, so it works but don't just click print and think you are going to walk over and pick up your document. It take getting used to the lag time.
Without PDF Creator, it would be impossible unless someone wrote/modified a laserjet 1000 driver for windows 10 32/64 and we all know that is not going to happen.
If you go the PDFCreator route, the setup isn't hard but it isnt simple either. Play with the settings and tabs. When you get it working take screenshots from the XP machine for later reinstallation if necessary. You know how that goes, if you dont do something for months so save yourself the aggrivation ahead of time.

Hi,
Think the problem is that the 1000 series printers rely on printing processing in the computer rather than in the printer itself. This is why neither PCL nor PS drivers work. So any advice to use those driver are just obsolete and a total waste of time.
I have also seen some tip to use other brand printer driver, but think that was for Windows 7. Have seen some guides on Youtube using PCL/PS drivers, but then DOT4 driver must be present. Not sure what that is, seem to require some driver download third party solution.
Think the only known simple way to use it is to setup a virtual XP with the 1000 series printer shared to the host with the virtual XP machine.
Sorry, but that is all i know of as of now.
Please do share any information on how to get this great printer to work!

Hi I would like to assist to the best of my ability to solve your problem.I hope the information i supply will be of help.Just for information some technical information is protected by HP and is not allowed to be answered. This is unfortunate and you will have to contact a HP repair shop for the help in this case.I don't know if this will work but its worth a try.
Download the latest drivers
Create a folder on PC
Set properties to run in compatibility mode
Do not run as Administrator.
How to setup Run in compatibility Mode:
Copy folder to PC
Look for all Exe files
Right click on all Exe files
Go to properties and select Compatibility mode
Then run setup in administrator mode
After installation look for installed folder on PC and also change compatibility mode.
Hope this will work for the machine.
