We have a

HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer

that has served us well for many years and it still is in use. But recently it will no longer print in duplex mode (i.e. 2-sided)

No matter which application we are printing from, when we choose "duplex" or "2-sided" option it still. only prints single sided.

Any suggestions on what might cause this and how to fix it. We hate wasting paper by printing single sided all the time.

We have Macbooks running IOS 15.3.1 Sequoia

UPDATE: ran through some settings update and now it does print duplex from Word and Preview (i.e. PDF) but not when printing a web page from Google Chrome. Any ideas on this annomoly?

Hi @alanmu,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It’s great to hear duplex printing is working in Word and Preview.

To resolve the issue in Google Chrome on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620, start by checking the print settings. Go to File > Print (or press Cmd + P) and expand "More settings." Ensure "Two-sided" printing is enabled. If not, try using the System Print Dialog (Cmd + Option + P) and select duplex there.

If the option still doesn’t appear, reset Chrome’s printer settings by typing chrome://settings/reset in the address bar, then selecting Restore settings to their original defaults. After restarting Chrome, attempt printing again.

On macOS, if the issue persists, remove and reinstall the printer. Navigate to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, remove your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620, and re-add it using AirPrint instead of HP drivers. Finally, test duplex printing from Chrome.

If duplex printing remains unsupported, switching to another browser like Safari or Firefox may help, as Chrome could have a compatibility issue. Let me know if this clears things up!
