macOS 13.0 Ventura

Hi I have just bought a new HP 6000 series printer, my old one was a HP 5000 series which worked ok.

I can find the new printer on my macbook pro, but the printer is paused on my mac, and a message states encryption credentials have expired.

can anyopne please suggest the fix for this problem, the printer works fine from my phone, so it does seem the problem is with the mac.

Thank you in anticipation.

Hi @Juke50,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating it is when your brand-new HP DeskJet Plus Ink Advantage 6000 printer shows up on your MacBook Pro running macOS Ventura, but refuses to print due to an “Encryption Credentials Expired” message. You’ve done everything right, and it’s definitely not your fault.

Let’s walk through the fix for this issue, which is caused by an expired certificate in the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS). This certificate is used to secure AirPrint and IPP connections, and macOS blocks it when it’s outdated.

Fix: Generate a New Self-Signed Certificate

Step-by-Step Instructions (Requires a Windows PC)

  1. Find the Printer’s IP Address
    • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel.
    • Look for the IPv4 address (e.g., 192.168.1.105).

  2. Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS)
    • On a Windows PC, open a browser and enter the printer’s IP address.
    • This opens the printer’s EWS dashboard.

  3. Generate a New Certificate
    • Click the Network tab.
    • Expand Advanced Settings, then click Certificates.
    • Click Configure, then select Create a New Self-Signed Certificate.
    • Click Next, then Finish.

  4. Restart the Printer and Mac
    • After the certificate is created, restart both devices.
    • Try printing again from your Mac.

⚠️ Note: This process must be done from a Windows PC; the mobile view of EWS on macOS or iOS does not show the Certificates menu.
