My printer stopped printing in color after an update.

i've uninstalled my original hp printer app and install the hp smartapp but I can't get the printer to print in color.  I can manually make the printer align, clean and print in color.  I cannot get a color picture to print on my printer even when I go into the setting manually and set it for color, plain paper, normal quality.  it will print a drna good mono chrome and the  color ink will print on test by not through print comd.

@Ed7112, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

Since you've already tried reinstalling the HP Smart app and confirmed that color prints work during alignment and cleaning, the issue likely lies in the print driver settings or app configuration. Let's walk through a few steps to get your printer printing in color again:

Check Printer Preferences in Windows

Sometimes the driver defaults to black & white or grayscale. Here's how to fix it:

  1. Press Windows + R, type control printers, and press Enter.
  2. Right-click your HP ENVY 7645 printer > Printing Preferences.
  3. Go to the Paper/Quality tab.
  4. Under Color, make sure Color is selected (not "Black & White" or "Grayscale").
  5. Click OK to save.

Reinstall the Full Feature Software

The HP Smart app is great, but for full functionality, especially color printing, install the full driver package:

Official HP® Support

  1. Uninstall the current printer software via Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  2. Restart your PC.
  3. Download and install the full feature software from the link above.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect your printer.

Check HP Smart App Settings

If you're printing from HP Smart:

  1. Open the HP Smart app. HP Smart
  2. Select your printer > Print Documents or Photos.
  3. Before printing, click More Settings.
  4. Ensure Color is selected and not Black & White.

Try Printing from Another App

To rule out app-specific issues:

  • Open a color image in Photos or Paint.
  • Press Ctrl + P and check the printer settings.
  • Make sure Color is selected.

Optional: Print a Diagnostic Page

To confirm color ink is working:

  1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Print Quality Report.
  2. Check if color blocks are printed correctly.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
