My envy photo 6255 has been working fine with my Mac OS but has suddenly stopped printing.  I can still photocopy.  Do I need to up grade the driver?   Or . . .?  Thanks for any and all help!

If you are using a USB cable, make sure the cable is directly connected between the Mac and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac.

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.

To check, select the Go menu on the top of the screen and go to the Applications folder.

  • Check if the printer is getting recognized by your Mac:
  1. From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus

If the printer is detected by the Mac, install it using the AirPrint as mentioned in my previous post.

Let me know how it goes.

@cercis, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to print from your Mac. As you are able to make photocopies, it means the printer hardware is working fine. This could be a connectivity issue or a driver issue. To assist you better,

  • Do you get any errors while trying to print?
  • How is the printer connected to the Mac?
  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

For now, update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Kumar0307,

Thank you for responding to my issue.  It has not been solved.  When I attempted to download drivers, Envy photo 6200 series did not show up.  See attached photo.  I have never had the printer that shows up there.  Please advise.  Thx!HP.png

It looks like the photo I sent did not show anything.  The image was of HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 (7E44CA).  I do not own this printer.

First, let us check the connectivity between the printer and the Mac. Perform a ping test to check the connectivity

  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
  2. Open a new Terminal window (it's located in Applications > Utilities, or you can just start typing it in Spotlight).
  3. Enter “ping” followed by the IP address of the printer.
  4. Press Return. Press ctrl C after 10 pings
  5. There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.

This printer is AirPrint compatible, install the printer using the AirPrint driver (recommended)

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Note: Select "Bonjour multifunction" under kind while installing.

Try printing.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Kumar3070

My printer is not set up for wifi.  There is a USB connection between my printer and computer.  I intend as little use of Wifi as possible because of it's damaging EMF's.  Because of this, I could not do your ping test.  I followed your second recommendation and did not have success.  I clicked on 'Bonjour Multifunction' even though the name of the printer is NOT what I have.

Would I have been results if I were willing to use wifi?  I really detest wifi.  Does HP have a printer that works well hard wired?

Thank you
