Welcome to the HP English Community --

Wi-Fi Direct is a wireless connection that uses the printer's wireless radio to connect the printer directly to a device that supports the connection.

HP does not charge for using any Wireless connection.

If you incur any charge, it would be on the device side (phone) .

For example, the initial connection process between printer and mobile device requires that the Device has switched ON both Bluetooth and Location services.   The connection process takes seconds to complete.

Device charges for any Internet or network connection use are not in the control or HP or any HP device.

No, you need not subscribe to Instant Ink to use your printer -

With the single exception of the HP All-In Plan , Instant Ink is always optional.
