Hi @Tockqua,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry you're having issues with a firmware update on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740. I understand how frustrating this can be, especially if the update caused unintended problems. Here's how to address it.

Firmware updates are designed to improve performance and security, and uninstalling them isn't officially supported by HP.

Proceed carefully, as performing this process incorrectly could affect printer functionality.

1. Check Firmware Version

  • On the printer control panel, navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Printer Information to check the currently installed firmware version.
  • Take note of this version for comparison purposes.

2. Disable Automatic Updates

  • Prevent future firmware updates by navigating to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer > Printer Update Options and selecting Do Not Check.

3. Download Older Firmware

  • Visit the HP Support Page and search for your printer model (OfficeJet Pro 7740).
  • Check if older firmware files are available under the Firmware or Software and Drivers section.
  • Download the desired firmware version to your computer.

4. Install Older Firmware

  • Connect the Printer to Your PC: Use a USB cable to connect the printer directly to your computer for stability during the downgrade.
  • Run the Firmware Utility: Open the downloaded firmware file and follow the on-screen instructions.
    • If prompted, select the option to "overwrite" or "downgrade" the current firmware.

5. Reset Printer if Necessary

  • After the firmware installation, restart your printer to complete the process.
  • Check the firmware version again to confirm the downgrade was successful.

Tips:

  • Firmware Downgrade Blocked: Some HP printers prevent firmware downgrades. If you encounter an error, contact HP phone Support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
