Hi,

HP DJ 2800e model - only prints borders, no text content (PDF, Word). Test page works. Problem on all devices (PC, smartphone). Tried everything (I'm an IT prof for 13 years), including a reset, including a firmware update (it's up to date). The firmware auto-update of the cloud text rendering engine probably broke it.

I'm also frustrated becaus eof the poor support. 'Send' button on homepage not working. Installation of Support Assistant left me into a useless discussion with a Chatbot. No chance to speak to a human being and now I ended up here.

Hi @MatthiasBE,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to see your HP Victus laptop's keyboard flashing while the system refuses to power on, especially when diagnostics say everything is fine. You're not alone in this, and I’m here to help you through it.

What the flashing keyboard could mean

The flashing keyboard is often a sign that your laptop is trying to communicate a hardware-level issue, possibly related to:

  • Power delivery or battery failure
  • BIOS corruption or CMOS error
  • Motherboard or memory faults

Since you mentioned BitLocker screens and diagnostics that didn’t flag anything critical, it’s possible the issue is intermittent or tied to a deeper system-level fault that basic tests can’t catch.

Recommended Steps to Troubleshoot

Here’s a step-by-step guide from HP’s official support to help you isolate and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears residual power and resets hardware connections:

  • Disconnect the AC adapter and all peripherals (USB drives, printers, etc.)
  • Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds
  • Reconnect only the AC adapter and try powering on

2. Check for LED Blink Codes

HP laptops often use blink patterns to indicate specific errors. If your Caps Lock or Num Lock keys blink in a pattern (e.g., 3 long, 2 short), note it down.

3. Try External Display

If the laptop powers on but the screen stays black, connect it to an external monitor to rule out display issues.

4. Run HP Diagnostics (if accessible)

If the laptop intermittently boots, press Esc or F2 during startup to access HP Diagnostics. Run System Tests and Component Tests (especially memory and battery).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
