macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hi! so I am setting up my printer. I downloaded the easy start and it found the printer in usb, but directed me to download HP SMART. however HP Smart does not find the printer and so I cannot set it up. please help! (all software is up to date)

I understand you are trying to install the printer on your Mac. Let us try these steps:

 

Check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

 

Make sure the cable is directly connected between the Mac and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac.

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.

To check, select the Go menu on the top of the screen and go to the Applications folder.

 

  • Check if the printer is getting recognized by your Mac:
  1. From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus

 

Now, install the HP Smart app from the App Store.

Hi @kumar0307 thank you for your help. Unfortunately it appears I do not have an USB 2.0 on my computer, sine when I follow your steps, under system report- USB there is only information on a USB 3.0. does that mean I will be unable to install the printer?

 

if it helps, I have a MacBook Air 2017, that is updated to the last operating system.

In MacBook, USB 3.0 ports are backward compatible. Check if the printer is listed under the USB 3.0 port.

Hi @Kumar0307, 

 

The printer is listed under the 3.0 USB port, but still the HP smart application does not find it. I've tried the ethernet option and the usb option. When the easy app finds it it is listed as a desk jet 2300, and on the system information it is listed the same way, however it is a 2375. do you think that could be the issue? It does not let me finish the set up process with the easy start, due to there being a better software, but can there be a way through that?

Deskjet 2375 belongs to Deskjet 2300 series printers. So that is alright.

 

Click here to download the printer driver via  HP Easy Start.

Thank you for all your help. With easy start, after finding the device, the app begins the installation process which leads to this message: 

 

"Install the latest HP Smart software

We have a better software option available for you. Install HP Smart to complete setup and access all the features and benefits available for your printer.

You can also install the HP Smart software from your app store to complete setup.

Note: You might need to update your operating system before installing the HP Smart software"

 

However, the HP Smart software never finds my printer. 

 

Is this a lost cause? anything else I can try?
