Hi @coondog3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

This issue usually happens when the printer and computer are connected for printing, but scan communication isn’t fully established. Here’s how to fix it:

Recommended Steps

1. Check Connection Type

  • If using Wi-Fi, make sure both the printer and the computer are on the same network.
  • If using a USB, confirm the cable is firmly connected.

2. Restart Devices

  • Power off the printer and computer.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then power them back on.

3. Verify Scan Software

  • Open HP Smart or HP Scan on your computer.
  • If the printer shows as connected for printing but not scanning, reinstall the full driver package: 👉 Official HP® Support

4. Enable Scan Function

  • In HP Smart → Printer Settings → Advanced Settings → Web Services, ensure Web Services are enabled.
  • If disabled, turn them on and restart the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
