I guess I get an "F" in communicating. What I meant was: Blank checks come three-to-a-page. I printed 2, tore them off and I have a 'single'" unprinted check all by its lonesome. For many years, using my old HP Office Jet J4680, I could insert that 4" by 8.5" check, and it would print just fine. My new HP Envy 7645 says: oops paper too small. Surely HP was a way to deal with an issue like this, or do I have to go back to writing these itty bitty checks by hand?

Hi @Rickrunn,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To print a single check measuring 4x8.5 inches on your HP Envy Inspire 7900e printer, you'll need to adjust the settings and paper size manually. Here's how you can do it.

Prepare the Printer:

  • Load the check into the input tray. Ensure it is aligned to the right side, as smaller paper sizes usually need to be positioned this way.
  • Use the paper width adjuster in the tray to snugly fit the check.

Set Custom Paper Size:

Open the document or check printing software on your computer.

For Windows:

  1. Press Ctrl+P to open the print window.
  2. Click Properties or Printer Properties.
  3. Go to the Paper/Quality tab.
  4. Select Custom under Paper Size.
  5. Enter the dimensions (Width: 4 inches, Length: 8.5 inches).
  6. Save the custom paper size and proceed with printing.

For Mac:

  1. In the print dialog box, click the Show Details button if necessary.
  2. In the Paper Size dropdown, select Manage Custom Sizes.
  3. Add a new custom size and set it to 4x8.5 inches.
  4. Apply the settings and print.

Double-Check the Paper Settings on Printer:

  • Go to the printer’s control panel and ensure that the paper size is correctly detected or manually set to the custom size you've created.

Use a Template (Optional):

  • If your check printing software allows, make sure to select the correct layout or template for a single check.

This should allow you to print the remaining blank check without triggering the paper size error.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
