Hi @latrica,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer’s control panel is locked and you can’t access the back button to perform a reset, you can still try a hard reset or factory restore using one of the following methods, depending on your printer model.

Universal Hard Reset Method (No Back Button Required)

Try This First:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  5. Press and hold the following buttons simultaneously:
    • Cancel + Wireless (or Cancel + Resume) for 5–10 seconds
  6. While holding the buttons, press the Power button to turn the printer on.
  7. Release all buttons when the printer starts or shows signs of restarting.

This method works on many HP DeskJet, ENVY, and OfficeJet models.

Alternative: Use HP Smart App or Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If the control panel is locked but the printer is still connected to your network:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.
  2. Select your printer → Go to Advanced Settings
  3. This opens the Embedded Web Server (EWS) in your browser.
  4. Navigate to Settings > Restore Defaults or Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Settings

This bypasses the physical control panel entirely.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
