Try these steps:

Using HP Printer Software

Load the Original Document:

  • Place the document or photo you wish to scan on the scanner glass, with the printed side down, aligned with the icon or guide at the corner of the glass.

Open the Printer Software:

  • Double-click the printer icon on your desktop or:
    • Windows 10: From the Start menu or Start screen, select All apps, choose HP, and select the printer's name.
    • Windows 8.1/8: Click the down arrow or right-click on the Start screen, then select the printer's name.
    • Windows 7/Vista/XP: Go to Start, select All Programs, click HP, and select the folder with the printer's name.

Initiate the Scan:

  • In the printer software, click on Scan, and then choose Scan a Document or Photo.

Choose Your Scan Settings:

  • Select the type of scan you need. For instance, Save as PDF for documents or Save as JPEG for photos. You can also adjust the scan settings by clicking More at the top right corner if available.

Scan the Document:

  • Click Scan to start the scanning process. If Show Viewer After Scan is selected, you can review and make adjustments to the scanned image.

Save the File:

  • Choose the file type and save the document or photo to your desired location on your computer.

Using HP Smart App

Open the HP Smart App:

  • Ensure you have the HP Smart app installed on your desktop. You can download it from the HP Smart App page.

Select the Scan Option:

  • Inside the HP Smart app, click or tap on the Scan option.

Choose the Scanner:

  • Select Scanner for scanning from the printer's scan bed.

Adjust Settings:

  • Click or tap the Settings icon to change basic scanning settings like resolution, color, and file format.
  • Preview the scan if necessary and make adjustments.

Complete the Scan:

  • Click or tap the Scan icon to initiate the scanning process.

Edit and Save:

  • Use the editing tools to rotate, crop, or adjust contrast and brightness if needed.
  • Save the scanned document or photo to your preferred location or share via email or other platforms.
