I might not understand what you are asking - the description appears a bit muddled to my old brain.

Answer to what I believe you are asking:

  • Printing Preferences generally provide a set of locked templates that can be used "as is".
  • You cannot edit "locked" preference templates.
  • This is standard behavior - the "original" templates are protected against change.

Depending on your (printer) model and the version of your print software:

  • You can select a (locked or previously created custom) template, make changes to it, then use "Save as" (wording varies) to create your own "custom" shortcut.
  • You can designate either a "standard" template or a custom shortcut as the "Preferred" default.

From the extensive list of documents in How to > Topic Print > Subject List Instructions & Settings

Read:  Print Driver Settings Guide (Windows)

Including the final section:

Saving preferred print settings as a new shortcut or as defaults for all print jobs

We do not work via email.  I do not give out my personal information on any public forum.  (I suggest you do not do so, either.)

In general, know that if your printer provides both Print and Fax function, after you install the printer software, you may see at least two "printers" in Devices and Printers.  For example, there will likely be a separate listing for Fax and one for the printer itself.

Depending on your Operating System and version, you may see other entries as well, including those for Microsoft devices.
