Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Try these steps:

To reset the printer, follow the steps below.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
     NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
  9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

I will also recommend that you try to restore defaults.

If you disable some functions or change some settings and want to change them back, you can restore the printer to the original factory settings or network settings. To restore the printer to the original factory settings

1. From the printer control panel display, touch and slide your finger across the screen and then touch Setup.

2. Touch Tools.

3. Touch Restore Factory Defaults, and then touch Yes. A message appears stating that the printer defaults have been restored.

4. Touch OK

Hope that helps!

The solution suggested by Dean 08-10-17 resulted in the following message:

"the feature  has been locked by your administrator or the person who set up the printer"

I am unable to access many of the set up tools

I would be grateful for another solution for returning the machine to factory default condition?

I'm also facing a problem of false paper jam, doing the steps for a reset doesn't fix the issue, when I try to go to settings and perform a restore factory settings it interrupts me popping the Paper Jam message even without a single piece or fragment of paper there. I found in the internet some instructions for a secret HP reset menu but it involves pressing hard buttons and my HP Officejet Pro 8620 doesn't have these hard buttons.

I've read and followed the advice given to reset my printer and return it to the factory default values.  Unfortunately it didn't work.  When reseting the default values I get: "You have been locked out by your administrator...."  Please help me get my printer restored so that I can at least print.  I do have the Officejet Pro 8620 and I  would like to do other things besides print, like scan and copy, maybe even fax.  Otherwise it is nothing more than a big paper weight.

The following worked for me:

  • Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Services
  • Scroll down, find Stop Print Spooler Service
  • Delete files from C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS
  • Start Print Spooler Service
