@BobJax, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're trying to set up your HP DeskJet 2800e All-in-One Printer using a Chromebook, and you're having trouble finding the HP Smart app on 123.hp.com or the Google Play Store.

Here’s how you can get your printer working with your Chromebook:

Chromebook Setup Options for HP DeskJet 2800e

HP Smart App Availability

  • The HP Smart app is not natively supported on Chrome OS. It’s available for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS only.
  • You can view the app on the Google Play Store here , but it may not be installable on all Chromebooks depending on model and Play Store compatibility.

Alternative Setup Methods for Chromebook

Since HP Smart isn’t available, try these Chromebook-compatible options:

Option A: Use HP Print for Chrome

  • Install HP Print for Chrome from the Chrome Web Store.
  • This allows you to print directly from your Chromebook browser.

Option B: Use Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Find your printer’s IP address from the control panel or router.
  • Open a browser on your Chromebook and enter the IP (e.g., http://192.168.x.x) to access the printer’s Embedded Web Server.
  • From here, you can configure Wi-Fi, check status, and manage settings.

Option C: Use Another Device for Initial Setup

  • Use an Android/iOS phone or Windows/macOS PC to install the HP Smart app and complete the initial setup.
  • Once the printer is connected to Wi-Fi, your Chromebook will be able to detect it for printing.

Summary

While the HP Smart app isn’t directly supported on Chrome OS, you can still set up and use your HP DeskJet 2800e with your Chromebook using the above methods.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
