Hi @suepur,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand that you are having printing issues.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2622 printer is not communicating properly with your device, resulting in a "printer in default" message when trying to print. The fact that it prints a test page using the power button and X combination suggests that the printer itself is functioning, but there's an issue with the connection or settings. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and fix the problem:

Check Printer Status:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Settings > Printers & scanners on Windows 10/11).
  • Make sure your HP DeskJet 2622 is set as the default printer. Right-click on the printer icon and select Set as default printer.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Sometimes, stuck print jobs can cause issues:
    • Right-click on your HP DeskJet 2622 printer in Devices and Printers.
    • Select See what’s printing, then click Printer > Cancel All Documents.

Restart Print Spooler Service:

  • Restarting the print spooler service can often resolve printing issues:
    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Find Print Spooler in the list, right-click on it, and select Restart.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Update Drivers:
    • Go to Device Manager > Printers.
    • Right-click on your printer and select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
  • Reinstall Drivers:
    • If updating doesn't work, uninstall the printer:
      • Right-click on the printer in Devices and Printers and select Remove device.
    • Reinstall the printer by using the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Wireless Connection:
    • Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer. You can check the Wi-Fi status on the printer’s control panel or by printing a network configuration page.
  • USB Connection:
  • If using a USB connection, ensure the cable is securely connected and not damaged. Try using a different USB port on your computer.

Hi @suepur,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

Disable "Use Printer Offline" Mode:

  • In Devices and Printers, right-click your printer and make sure Use Printer Offline is unchecked under the Printer menu.

Restart Your Devices:

  • Restart your computer, printer, and router to refresh the connection between them.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your operating system is up to date, as some updates may include important fixes for printer connectivity.

Test Printing from Another Device:

  • To rule out issues with your current computer, try printing from another device (such as a phone or tablet) using the HP Smart app.

If you’ve tried all the above steps and the issue persists, there might be a deeper problem with the printer’s internal settings or firmware. In that case, consider performing a factory reset on the printer might help as a last resort.

I will share the steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @suepur,

Steps for Factory Reset on HP DeskJet 2622:

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Make sure your printer is powered on and in a ready state.

Disconnect Power:

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source or wall outlet as well.

Wait for a Minute:

  • Wait for at least 60 seconds to clear any residual memory.

Reconnect Power:

  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and the power source.
  • Turn the printer back on if it doesn’t power on automatically.

Perform the Reset:

  • Press and hold both the Cancel (X) button and the Wireless button on the printer control panel simultaneously for about 10 seconds.
  • Release both buttons when the Power light starts blinking.

Reconfigure Printer Settings:

  • After the reset, you will need to reconnect your printer to your Wi-Fi network or set up the printer again using the HP Smart app or the printer software on your computer.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi Network:

  • For Wireless Setup: Use the HP Smart app or go through the printer’s setup process to reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Manual Setup: Press the Wireless button and the Information button at the same time to print out a wireless configuration page that will help you set up the Wi-Fi.

If your printer still doesn’t work correctly after the reset, or if you encounter any specific error messages, I recommend you contact phone support for more options.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
