@884etr, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding SD Card Recognition Issues on HP ENVY 5530!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP ENVY 5530 printer is not recognizing your SD card, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Ensure Card Compatibility:

  • The HP ENVY 5530 supports the following types of memory cards:
    • Secure Digital (SD)
    • Secure Digital Mini (adapter required)
    • Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC)
    • Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC)
    • TransFlash MicroSD Card (adapter required)

Check Card Insertion:

  • Insert the memory card correctly into the memory card slot.
  • Ensure the card is not upside down or reversed.

Insert your memory card into the slot to start printing photos with the HP ENVY 5530 series.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date by visiting the HP Support page and downloading the latest firmware.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Check if the printer now recognizes the SD card.

Check SD Card for Errors:

  • Use a computer to check if the SD card is accessible. If the card is not recognized by the computer either, it may be faulty.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • Reset your printer to factory settings through the control panel to see if this resolves the issue.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Sorry to say my 10-year-old HP Envy5530 is not supported anymore so I was unable to use my SD card.  Thanks for your reply.

Hi @884etr

Thank you for the update! I'm sorry to hear that your HP ENVY 5530 is no longer supported. Since the printer is older, some newer SD cards might not be compatible or recognized due to the lack of firmware updates.

If you’ve already tried all the troubleshooting steps and the SD card still isn’t being recognized, it’s possible that the hardware is outdated for certain newer card types. A potential workaround would be to use a card reader connected to your computer if you need to print from an SD card.

I understand this can be frustrating, and I really appreciate your patience. If there's anything else I can assist with, feel free to reach out!

Take care!
