Hi @JUSTE1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP LaserJet 1020 printer is an older model and might initially seem incompatible with Windows 11 due to driver issues. Here are a few steps you can try to get your printer working with Windows 11:

Automatic Windows Update: Sometimes, Windows can find and install the necessary drivers if you run Windows Update. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click on "Check for updates."

Compatibility Mode for Driver Installation:

  • Download the latest HP LaserJet 1020 driver available from the HP website that was made for the most recent version of Windows available (it might be for Windows 7 or 10).
  • Right-click on the driver setup file and select "Properties."
  • Go to the "Compatibility" tab.
  • Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and choose Windows 7 or Windows 10 from the dropdown menu.
  • Run the installation file and follow the prompts to install.

Using HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP offers a tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can help resolve printer issues. Download and run this tool, and follow the instructions to see if it can fix the issue.

Manual Installation Using Existing Drivers:

  • Connect the printer to your PC.
  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Add a printer.
  • Choose “The printer that I want isn’t listed.”
  • Select "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings" and click Next.
  • Use an existing port (usually USB001 for USB-connected printers), and click Next.
  • In the Manufacturer list, select HP, and in the Printers list, try selecting a similar HP LaserJet model, like the HP LaserJet 3055 PCL5 (HP). This generic driver might allow basic functionality for your LaserJet 1020.
  • Follow the prompts to install the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
