Hello, I can't install my HP LaserJet P1102w printer on my Mac 15.5 . I've tried using tools like HP Smart, but it can't find it. I've tried using a USB connection, and it recognizes the printer, but then it won't print. I'm at a loss. I really need your help.

Hi @gonzaa_sma

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details. I understand the situation clearly. The HP LaserJet P1102w is supported on macOS, but the installation requires specific steps since the HP App does not directly support this model.

Let’s go through the recommended guidance to set this up properly:

Steps to Install HP LaserJet P1102w on macOS 15.5:

Prepare the Printer

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and connected via USB or Wi-Fi.
  • If using Wi-Fi, press and hold the Wireless button on the printer until the light starts blinking, then connect it to your network using WPS or the embedded web server.

Download the Driver

  • Go to the official HP support page for your printer:
    HP LaserJet P1102w Printer Drivers
  • Select macOS 15.5 as your operating system.
  • Download the HP Easy Start package. This is the recommended installer for macOS.

Install Using HP Easy Start

  • Open the downloaded file and run HP Easy Start.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer.
  • If prompted, choose AirPrint as the driver option (this is the default supported driver for macOS).

Add the Printer Manually (if needed)

  • On your Mac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the + button to add a printer.
  • Select your HP LaserJet P1102w from the list.
  • Ensure the Use field shows AirPrint or Secure AirPrint.
  • Click Add.

Test the Printer

  • Print a test page to confirm successful installation.

Note.

  • The HP App is the current tool for supported models, but for this printer, the correct path is through HP Easy Start and AirPrint.
  • Always use the official HP drivers and installation packages from the HP support site.

You should now be able to print successfully on macOS 15.5 using your HP LaserJet P1102w.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi, I greatly appreciate your response. But the problem is that macOS version 15.5 doesn't exist, so when I download the driver, my Mac tells me it's not compatible.

Thanks for all the details @gonzaa_sma

You are correct—macOS 15.5 does not exist, which is why the driver download fails. The HP LaserJet P1102w is supported on macOS, but the correct approach is to select the actual macOS version installed on your computer when downloading drivers. The HP site provides drivers for macOS versions such as 10.15 (Catalina), 11 (Big Sur), 12 (Monterey), 13 (Ventura), and 14 (Sonoma).

Here is the alternative method to get your printer working:

Install Using HP Easy Start or AirPrint

  • Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • If HP Easy Start is not offered, add the printer manually:
    • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
    • Click the + button.
    • Select your HP LaserJet P1102w.
    • In the Use field, choose AirPrint or Secure AirPrint.

Alternative Printing Option

  • If drivers are not available for your macOS version, you can still print using AirPrint:
    • Connect the printer to Wi-Fi (press and hold the Wireless button until the light blinks, then use WPS or the embedded web server).
    • Add the printer in Printers & Scanners and select AirPrint.

Test the Printer

  • Print a test page to confirm successful setup.

Thanks for your reply, but when I try to download HP EasySmart, it says it's not compatible with my operating system. Now, if I want to use AirPrint, I don't know how, since I can't press the WPS button because I have a Starlink antenna.

Thank you for clarifying further. I understand the challenge: HP Easy Start is reporting incompatibility, and you’re unsure how to proceed with AirPrint since your setup doesn’t involve a traditional WPS router.

Here’s the correct path forward:

1. Use AirPrint Without WPS

Even without WPS, you can connect the printer to Wi-Fi:

  • Connect the printer via USB to your Mac temporarily.
  • Open a browser and type the printer’s IP address (you can print a Network Configuration Page from the printer by pressing and holding the Wireless button until the light blinks and a page prints).
  • In the Embedded Web Server (EWS), go to Wireless Setup and manually enter your Wi-Fi network name and password.
  • Once connected, disconnect USB.

2. Add the Printer in macOS

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click + to add a printer.
  • Select your HP LaserJet P1102w from the list.
  • In the Use field, choose AirPrint or Secure AirPrint.
  • Click Add.

3 If AirPrint Is Not Available

This way, you bypass WPS entirely and still configure AirPrint. Would you like me to walk you through printing the Network Configuration Page and accessing the Embedded Web Server step by step? That’s usually the key to getting AirPrint working in your situation.

Yes, please, I would appreciate your help.

Thank you for confirming. Let’s walk through the step‑by‑step process to print the Network Configuration Page and then use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to set up AirPrint without WPS:

Step 1: Print the Network Configuration Page

  1. Make sure the printer is powered on.
  2. Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer until the light starts blinking.
  3. The printer will print a Network Configuration Page.
    • On this page, look for the IP Address (for example, 192.168.1.25).

Step 2: Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  1. On your Mac, open a web browser (Safari or Chrome).
  2. In the address bar, type the printer’s IP Address from the Network Configuration Page.
  3. Press Enter.
    • This will open the printer’s Embedded Web Server.

Step 3: Configure Wireless Settings

  1. In the EWS, go to Wireless Setup or Networking.
  2. Enter your Wi‑Fi network name (SSID) and password manually.
  3. Save the settings.
  4. Once saved, disconnect the USB cable—the printer should now connect to your Wi‑Fi network.

Step 4: Add the Printer in macOS

  1. On your Mac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Click the + button to add a printer.
  3. Select your HP LaserJet P1102w from the list.
  4. In the Use field, choose AirPrint or Secure AirPrint.
  5. Click Add.

Step 5: Test Printing

  1. Print a test page from your Mac.
  2. Confirm that the printer responds over Wi‑Fi using AirPrint.

This process bypasses WPS entirely and ensures your printer connects directly to your Wi‑Fi network.
