Hi @rowdydadf16drvr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e series will not move past the firmware update step after you select Auto Update and then Continue. Try these HP-supported checks:

  • Make sure the printer is connected to the Internet. Firmware checks require an internet connection, and HP+ printers must remain connected online for setup and updates.

  • Complete setup with HP software and an Internet connection, not USB-only. HP states that to use all features and complete the first-time setup, you should use HP software and an internet connection.

  • If using Wi-Fi, confirm Wi-Fi is connected and stable. The printer Wi-Fi light should remain lit when successfully connected.

  • If needed, connect by Ethernet instead. HP notes that you can connect the printer to an Ethernet network, and Wi-Fi is automatically disabled when Ethernet is connected.

  • Try updating from the control panel again after reconnecting to the network:

    1. On the Home screen, touch Menu

    2. Go to Utilities > Settings

    3. Touch Firmware Update

    4. Choose Auto Update (Recommended) or Notify

  • If the printer is already on your network, try updating from the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

    • Open the printer’s EWS from HP software, then go to General > Firmware Update > Check for Update.

  • If proxy settings appear and you do not have them, contact your network administrator. HP notes that proxy details may be required on some networks.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
