Went to use the HP scan to computer and it forced me to update HP DR..and it removed my printer..IWhen I try to reinstall,  cannot get the reinstall to finalize (and it says all software and drivers are installed) but the final page where you have to sign in to finalize..I do sign in but it never finalizes.  I  have uninstalled printer/reinstalled .. tried the full package from the internet, the basic package and the disc and old file I saved brom original install...still no drivers are available in devices..I finally did find a way when I selected in devices to add a device and say not listed and picked the generic printer and I can print but do not get the HP printer assistant and other features.   The printer is set up wireless and sems to find the printer ok but still says not installed and every shortcut it puts on ,y desktop opend the program to install a new device..same results.

Any suggestions..  I currently have W10 (upgraded from w7)  that worked flawlessly yesterday .

Just some more info as I have been trying everything..not a geek..just a retired person who cant stand it when something does not work.  I was able to install a new printer using the IP address but it set up a new one in my devices so now I have two printers..the original one that says no drivers and this new one HP 8710Pro with some numbers.  I can print but no Printer Assistant..if I click on the shortcut on the desktop it has a paper for a logo and not the old black pic of the printer and it starts the device install.  If I right click on the shortcut to see the properties, it points to program files HP8710 Pro >bin..in that folder is a HPPA.exe that if I click..nothing happens.  I was going to try just a new shortcut on the desktop but it seems this HPPrinter Assistant.exe is not functioning.  I even signed onto my HP account and it asked me for the claim code and when I entered it a message said it was already entered..dont have a second one.   That is as techie as I have the ability to  describe.  I did a sfc scannow, reset the router etc.  I just can't get either the original drivers for the original 8710 Pro to install or this HP Printer Assistant to install.

Any help would be much appreciated...thank You

This will show how non-computer savy I am but I have a second laptop that recognizes this printer and software functions correctly.  Can I just copy the file HP Officejet Pro 8710.exe from this laptop and paste it into the same place on the other laptop that will not complete the instal of the software?  Can I hurt anything if I do that?

I found this file by right clicking on the shortcut on the working laptop for OfficeJet 8710 and selected properties>take to to the target.  Shot in the dark

Hi Oldbobjr,

Kindly re-install your printer software as you did earlier but before you do this now, please uninstall all the left over HP drivers first and install.

It seems that the original printer installed whose drivers became lost was the issue.  When I deleted that printer, the software did install under the other printer that it created.  Oddly that  the same printer is named differently on the second laptop I have but both are working so leaving well enough alone!

Thank you
