In the HP Assistant software, I used to have three tabs: Print, Scan, and Fax. The Scan tab has disappeared. I have downloaded and reinstalled the software from the HP website but the Scan tab is still not there. The Scan options from the printer are severely limited (photo formats only, no doc formats). Help, please?

Hi,
Welcome to HP Support Forum. Which Assistant software did you install ? Can you still see Scan option on your printer ? Given you have installed the right HP Assistant software. Please try to:
(a) double click printer icon on desktop,
(b) slect Scan a Document or Photo
You should be able to scan from there.
Regards.

When I double-click the printer icon on my desktop (the one that says HP ENVY 7640 Series) I get a text box that asks if I "want to allow this app to make changes to my computer." If I click No, it closes. If I click Yes, I get the Device Set-up & Software" box. My printer is connected just fine as everything else works properly.
The other icon is the HP Printer Assistant (HP6A6405 (HP ENVY 7640 series)). When i double-click on this it opens the Assistant where the only two options I have are Print and Fax . . . no Scan, which I used to have and which now is missing. I see no version number anywhere in the Printer Assistant.
