If you have edited (changed) the PIN, then this is a different animal from HP Smart simply refusing to open parts of the application using the PIN.  This issue is (can be) more complicated.  You MIGHT be able to recover use of the printer's PIN by issuing a Restore to Factory defaults.  Do NOT restore Factory defaults unless you are willing and ABLE to re-enter every setting for the printer, including adding the printer to your network, updating firmware (if necessary), recreating any custom settings, and adding the printer to HP Smart / HP App.  See the User Guide and search for the word "factory".

IF I understand what you are saying, then what you are asking might be related to using the printer's PIN number to open certain settings within the HP Smart application.

True -- there are circumstances when HP Smart -- and its replacement, the HP App -- will refuse to open certain services, including (for example) Printer Settings → Advanced that should open the Embedded Web Server (EWS). 

-- Dragon Opinion --  The access problem is more often found in HP Smart than in HP App.

EWS might (does) require your printer's PIN number to unlock many (most) of the settings in EWS.

The workaround for HP Smart not opening EWS from within Printer Settings → Advanced is to open EWS using your browser.
