I was having trouble resetting my laptop from default to an HP 8600 printer in one location to an HP 6978 in another... I tried to use HP Smart to assist and it started to open but didn't complete the cycle. I tried troubleshooting the app but that didn't work. I uninstalled it and after several hours of frustration was finally able to reinstall it. I have restarted the computer several times, but HP Smart still fails to open.

@eberger, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

I understand you are not able to print from your computer.

 

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

 

Click here to download the HP Full-feature driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing. Do not use the HP Smart app. Open the document you would like to print, click on File > Print.
