Desktop lost access to HP network printer.  HP Smart App does shows printer and  lists all setting, but says "not installed" and can't connect to printer.  Using the Win 11 "Add New Printer" shows the printer, but will not connect.  Win11 Device Manager shows HP PCL3 A-size Printer Class Driver in the Printers Listing.  The printer is available to other network PCs, so the issue lies with the Local Desktop PC settings.  My HP ENVY 5000 network printer is still available, but is now my default printer instead of my OfficeJet Pro 8025e printer.  I have attempted to remove and install the printer with the Win11 Settings screen and then reinstalling the printer, but that operation results in a lockup in the connecting operation.  I downloaded and reinstalled HP Smart, but that made no difference.  I have tried manually installing the printer, but I get a "handle" error message.  I really don't want to do a system reset from my backup app, so any help will be appreciated.

Hi @Devo4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're facing issues connecting your HP Envy 5000 printer to your Windows 11 desktop via the network, even though it's working on other PCs. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Ensure HP App Configuration

  • Confirm that your device is connected to the same network as the printer.

  • Make sure the printer is powered on and in a ready state.

2. Run Windows Update

  • Check if any pending updates for Windows 11 might include necessary drivers or connectivity fixes.

  • To do this, search for Check for updates in Windows, and install any available updates.

3. Reinstall the Printer Driver

  • Remove the existing printer driver by going to Device Manager, right-clicking the printer listed, selecting Uninstall device, and confirming the action.

  • Download the full-feature printer driver from the HP Support website specific to your HP Envy 5000 series.

  • Install the downloaded driver and follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Network Discovery Settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings.

  • Ensure that Network discovery and File and printer sharing are turned on.

5. Check Firewall Settings

  • Temporarily disable any firewall (e.g., Windows Defender Firewall, third-party firewall software) to check if they are blocking the printer connection, and then try reconnecting to the printer.

6. Configure HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Access the printer’s embedded web server by entering its IP address into a web browser.
  • Verify network settings and update the firmware if an update is available.

7. Add Printer via IP Address

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select Add a printer and then The printer that I want isn't listed.
  • Choose to add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, enter the printer IP address, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks for the quick response.  The ENVY 5000 was already available.  My PC dropped the driver attached to my default OfficeJet Pro 8025e.  The driver that was dropped from DEVICE MANAGER/PRINTERS was a driver named "Microsoft IPP Class Driver".  I believe this driver is required to attach the printer to the network.  I tried virtually everything to correct this issue, but nothing works.  I finally gave up and restored my PC from my last EaseUSToDo backup from the first of the month.  The printer 8085e is now available and has been restored as my default.  It has been a very frustrating process, but it confirms that it is wise to do regular backups.  Thanks again for your assistance.
