my new hp printer connected wirelessly to my hp laptop, I installed the latest drivers etc but in the printer preferences, there is no option to select a colour or black and white, the printer defaults to greyscale even when I give a colour print when t shows in the print preview from my browser or pdf!

the printer shows the b&w and colour option in printer preferences and I have no issues choosing between colour or greyscale print when it's connected via USB! no issue here also works with colour using the hp smart app of my android phone wirelessly!

the issue arises only when I connect it wirelessly to my computer it just refuses to print in colour and the colour option doesn't show in     printer prefernces-> Paper/quality tab ->advanced !!

I even removed all the added printers along with drivers even from the print server and reconnected /reinstalled the latest drivers from hps website, ran the hp print doctor diagnostics etc but the problem still persists...print preferences of wireless connection not showing color and grey scale option like theprint preferences of wireless connection not showing color and grey scale option like theScreenshot (4).pngprint prefernces if usb connection showing color options!print prefernces if usb connection showing color options!

@bhargav905,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Have you checked printing other files from the computer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.

 1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.

hi, I did everything that you said, it doesn't solve the problem, it doesn't print colour because it doesnt show colour option in the printing preferences ,only showing colour in printing prefernces when connected via usb...its not the printers fault too, your drivers have not been optimized for windows 10 I guess!

I tried connecting the printer via windows inbuilt option  "my printer isn't listed here" and "my printer is an older model help me find it " it did work and colour option is available in the printer preferences but as soon as i restart my computer the printer cannot connect to my hp laptop and it stays offline! forcing me to install its drivers and the same problem loop continues again! your drivers are so old and not optimized!

@bhargav905,

Are you facing this issue printing one particular file or all the documents?

From which application/software you are printing?

Meanwhile, I recommend you create a new user account on the computer and then install the printer and check.

Follow the steps in the below article to create a new user account.

The issue persists with every document,picture type....I tried printing with hp smart app on Windows,the driver software of the hp 4720 series ,from individual applications like Adobe ,Ms office etc ,but all of them are printing b&w even though I give a colour print in the print preview, this happens primarilly because in the printer preferences there is no option of colour wirelessly....all the above applications print colour when connected via USB as the color option shows up in printer preferences !

After trying all possible solutions ,the windows inbuilt setup without drivers was the only way to bring the printing preferences to show colour wirelessly...but the printer goes offline after I restart the system!

How can creating a new account in Windows help? I am the sole user as well as administrator of my windows 10 laptop from HP which is fairly new and is fully updated !

I still feel the issue is with the drivers ...they are pretty old and not optimized!

@@bhargav905,

Follow the steps I have shared in my previous post to create a new user account on the computer and then install the printer and check.

Also, download and install the full feature software for your printer from the below link.

@Nikolill

Have you perform all the troubleshooting steps mentioned above?

Are you able to make Color Photocopies?

If none of those steps work, try using the Windows Native drivers.

First uninstall the printer driver from root level.

Next follow the instructions in this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879 to install the Full Feature Software

Keep me posted
