@19Walt44,

Welcome to our Lenovo HP Community Forum!

You didn't find it because HP doesn't provide it -after all, this is a sort of a dated printer -first released 16 years ago, in September 2007, to be exact. Anyhow, what you could try, I suppose, is to try out the 64-bit Windows 10 "HP LaserJet P1000-P1500 Hostbased Plug and Play Basic Driver" as found here: HP LaserJet P1006 Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support.

If you try this, please be advised that there are software security and printer stability issues to consider when dabbling with legacy drivers and such.

Nevertheless, if you are a hardcore HP LaserJet P1006 aficionado, and insist to install said printer on a Lenovo laptop running Windows 11, you can follow these general steps:

  1. Prepare Your Printer:

    • Ensure your printer is powered on and connected to your laptop via a USB cable.
  2. Windows Update:

    • Make sure your Windows 11 system is up to date with the latest updates and drivers. This can be done through Windows Update.
  3. Automatic Installation (Plug and Play):

    • In many cases, Windows will automatically detect and install basic drivers for your printer when you connect it via USB. If it does, you should see a notification that the printer is being set up.
  4. Manual Installation (if plug and play doesn't work):

    • If Windows doesn't automatically detect the printer, you can manually install it by following these steps:
      • Press Win + I to open the Windows Settings.
      • Go to "Devices" and then select "Printers & scanners" from the left menu.
      • Click on the "Add a printer or scanner" button.
      • Windows will start searching for printers. If your HP LaserJet P1006 is not automatically detected, click on "The printer that I want isn't listed."
      • Select "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings."
      • Choose the port (usually it's USB001) and click "Next."
      • In the next window, click "Windows Update" to check for additional drivers. This may take a few minutes.
      • Once the list of printers is updated, scroll down and look for "HP" or "Hewlett-Packard" in the manufacturer's list. Then select "HP LaserJet P1006."
      • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  5. Test the Printer:

    • After the installation is complete, print a test page to make sure the printer is working correctly.
  6. Set as Default (optional):

    • If you want to make the HP LaserJet P1006 your default printer, go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners" and select your HP LaserJet P1006. Click on "Manage" and then choose "Set as default."

This should (as in: may) help you install the HP LaserJet P1006 Printer on your Lenovo laptop running Windows 11. If you encounter any specific issues during the installation, you may want to refer to the printer's manual (see: HP LaserJet P1000 and P1500 Series User Guide - ENWW) or the aforementioned HP's official website for additional support and drivers.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

I will make a suggestion that worked for another user with an older printer that I was told would not work. As this is a host based printer (the printer has no ability to format pages itself) the driver setup is different. So no guarantee but if the advice above does not work, try this as a last resort. Download the Smart Universal Printer Driver for Managed systems (this is the USB version) and try to install. Have the printer disconnected until prompted to install or plug in after the install is done if you are not prompted.
