iMac
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I  have an HP Printer in Spain LaserJet model CP1025nw. I have had connections issues from new but have 'got by'. Not satisfactory I know but in desperation today I removed it from my printer list and attempted to reinstall it. I cannot get my iMac to recognise it. I have it switched on, I have checked the USB connection both ends, switched the printer off and on and the computer similarly but to no avail. All my iMac wants to recognise is my HP 200 scanner which I was using earlier and is now disconnected. Printing is not working of course since no printer is 'connected'. HP's virtual assistant cannot help me since it will not accept that I have the model correctly noted above. All it wants me to acknowledge is the 'pro' version of the above. Can anyone offer a suggestion please? many thanks if you have read so far!

Hi @Beaconridge,

I'd like to help!

I understand you are able to install a USB printer.

Try the below suggestions

Try updating mac and printer firmware

To update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

To update Mac, try these steps - How to update the software on your Mac

Make sure the cable is directly connected between the Mac and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended.

Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.

  1. You may check this in System Information > Applications> utility folder
  2. You can also hold down the option key and click on the Apple at the top left of the screen to get to System Information
  3.  Click System Report.
  4.   Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB. USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus

Uninstall HP Easy Start

  • Click on the Spotlight icon and type HP Uninstaller or by opening HP Easy Start.
  • Click on Continue to uninstall the software.
  • When prompted for a password, type in your system password
  • You can also uninstall by opening HP Easy Start.

Download HP Easy Start and install the printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
